From Canada’s National Ballet School to the Hamburg Ballet

Kiran’s path began in dance. After graduating from Canada’s National Ballet School in 2003, he moved to Hamburg to continue his training at the School of the Hamburg Ballet. A year with Heinz Spoerli’s company in Zürich followed before he returned to Hamburg in 2005 to join the Hamburg Ballet under John Neumeier.

In 2010, he was promoted to soloist. Over the years, he danced a wide range of roles, including the title role in George Balanchine’s The Prodigal Son, Demetrius in John Neumeier’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Fritz in The Nutcracker, and the created role of the Sailor in Neumeier’s Liliom.

He represented the Hamburg Ballet at the Erik Bruhn Competition in Toronto and was later awarded the Dr.-Wilhelm-Oberdörffer-Preis. After more than a decade with the company, his focus gradually moved from being on stage to observing it from behind the camera — a shift that continues to shape the way he approaches photography, film and design today.
